LAS VEGAS, NV – The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Eastern Sierra Slopes, including the communities of Aspendell and Whitney Portal, in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday morning.
According to forecasters, heavy snow is possible, with 8 to 14 inches expected between 7,000 and 9,000 feet and 1 to 2 feet of accumulation above 9,000 feet. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, making travel extremely hazardous, particularly on Highway 168 west of Bishop.
The NWS warns that travel could be very difficult to impossible during the storm, and mountain residents and visitors should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. Officials recommend monitoring the latest forecasts for updates as the system approaches midweek.
This incoming system marks a significant early-season winter storm for California’s high-elevation regions, potentially bringing the first major snow event of the season to parts of the Eastern Sierra.
