Salisbury, MD – Wind gusts up to 45 mph are driving snow across Maryland’s Eastern Shore, creating near-whiteout conditions and making travel nearly impossible through 7 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. for Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset and Inland Worcester counties, along with the Maryland Beaches. While additional snowfall totals may only reach up to 2 inches, powerful winds are lifting and blowing snow across highways and rural roads.
In Salisbury, Cambridge and Princess Anne, visibility may drop sharply in open areas as snow sweeps across Route 50 and Route 13. Along the coast in Ocean City and other beach communities, crosswinds could create sudden drifts and hazardous conditions on bridges and exposed roadways.
Officials warn that even treated roads can quickly become snow-covered again as blowing snow continues. Tree limbs may snap under gusty winds, leading to isolated power outages.
Residents are urged to restrict travel to emergencies only and carry a winter survival kit if driving is unavoidable. Check Maryland 511 for updated road conditions. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m., with dangerous travel conditions expected to persist through the evening commute.
