Canaan Valley, WV – A Blizzard Warning is in effect for parts of northern West Virginia from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.
The storm is expected to bring 3 to 6 inches of snow along with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph, creating whiteout conditions and dangerous travel across Eastern Preston and Eastern Tucker Counties, including Canaan Valley, Davis, Thomas, and Terra Alta.
Forecasters warn that roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous, particularly during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. The combination of strong winds and blowing snow could make travel “treacherous and potentially life-threatening.”
The weather service noted a brief lull in snowfall may occur Wednesday afternoon, but gusty winds over 40 mph will continue to blow snow and reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid travel unless it’s an emergency. If driving is necessary, carry a winter survival kit and stay with your vehicle if stranded. Snow reports can be shared with the NWS Pittsburgh office via Facebook, X (@NWSPittsburgh), or by calling 412-262-1988.
