Philadelphia, PA – Sunshine will dominate Tuesday across the Philadelphia region, but a rapid shift to dangerous heat and storm potential is coming by midweek. Afternoon highs Tuesday will climb to 91°F under clear skies, setting the stage for an even hotter, more unstable Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Philadelphia could see temperatures near 92°F Wednesday afternoon with heat indices approaching triple digits. The combination of heat and humidity will fuel a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., some capable of producing heavy rain and gusty winds. South Jersey, northern Delaware, and Philadelphia County could face the strongest cells between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., making the evening commute and outdoor events vulnerable to sudden downpours.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and secure outdoor items ahead of storm development. Those with plans for outdoor dining, youth sports, or back-to-school shopping may want to move activities earlier in the day Tuesday or Wednesday morning to avoid the heat and storm risk.

Heat and thunderstorm chances will linger into Thursday before cooler, calmer weather returns for the weekend. Additional alerts may be issued if severe weather potential increases.
