Philadelphia, Pa. – Dangerous storms are set to roll across the Mid-Atlantic today, bringing the threat of flash flooding, damaging winds, and even isolated tornadoes from Philadelphia through Trenton and into northern New Jersey.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, severe thunderstorms are expected to ignite this afternoon as high temperatures climb into the upper 80s with muggy humidity fueling instability. The highest risk zone stretches along the I-95 corridor in southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware.

Meteorologists warn that storms could produce wind gusts topping 60 mph, capable of downing trees and power lines. Heavy rainfall may trigger localized flash flooding, particularly in urban areas like Philadelphia, Camden, and Wilmington where poor drainage could cause rapid water buildup. The Weather Prediction Center places much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania under a “slight” risk for excessive rainfall into tonight.

Communities from Allentown to Princeton also face a low but notable tornado risk, with the Storm Prediction Center including parts of northeast Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey under a 2% probability zone.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel this afternoon and evening, charge devices in case of power outages, and monitor alerts as storms move quickly. The severe threat will linger into late tonight before conditions gradually improve Sunday.
