Beachgoers in New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania are urged to stay alert this weekend as dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding risks remain elevated through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected along back bays and low-lying shorelines during the Saturday evening high tide. Areas under Coastal Flood Advisories include Atlantic City, Toms River, Cape May, and much of coastal Delaware, where elevated water levels may be slow to drain.

A high risk for rip currents stretches from Sandy Hook down to southern Delaware, with conditions making ocean swimming life-threatening. The elevated surf is a lingering effect of Tropical Cyclone Erin, which continues to move away from the East Coast but leaves behind treacherous marine conditions.

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid entering the ocean, especially near jetties and piers, and to heed all posted warnings. Even strong swimmers are at risk due to powerful, fast-moving currents.

Coastal Flood Advisories remain in effect through Sunday morning. Updates may follow if conditions worsen or new alerts are issued.
