San Diego, CA – Tropical Storm Octave is churning in the eastern Pacific this weekend with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, according to an early Saturday advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The system, centered near latitude 14.6°N and longitude 123.6°W, is moving northwest at roughly 7 mph.
According to the NHC, Octave is expected to continue on a northwesterly path through early next week, gradually weakening over open waters. The storm is forecast to lose strength and become a tropical depression by mid- to late-week, well southwest of the Baja California Peninsula. No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect.
Satellite data shows the storm’s influence remaining far from land, though forecasters are monitoring an additional disturbance closer to the Mexican coast with a medium chance of development within the next seven days.
While Octave poses no immediate threat to Mexico or the Hawaiian Islands, residents and mariners are advised to stay updated as the Pacific remains active this week.
