Pendleton, OR – A wind advisory has been issued for the Eastern Columbia River Gorge, Simcoe Highlands, and the Lower Columbia Basin of Oregon beginning late Saturday night through early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
Forecasters said winds will strengthen behind a passing cold front, with sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts between 45 and 55 mph in the advisory area. Other regions are expected to experience winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
The advisory runs from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (PDT). Meteorologists noted a 70–90% confidence in sustained winds of 20–30 mph, with gusts possibly reaching 50 mph in parts of the Columbia River Gorge and Simcoe Highlands.
Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution, as strong crosswinds could make travel hazardous. The NWS recommends checking TripCheck or Weather.gov for real-time road conditions and updates before traveling.
Residents are also encouraged to secure outdoor objects, such as trash bins and decorations, ahead of the approaching system.
