Pendleton, Oregon – Light rain early Thursday will give way to rising heat in Pendleton and across Eastern Oregon, where temperatures could soar back into the mid-90s by Sunday, increasing fire weather concerns region-wide.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a slight 20 percent chance of morning showers Thursday will clear by late morning. Highs will stay mild near 79°F, but conditions quickly heat up starting Friday. Winds Thursday afternoon could gust up to 28 mph, prompting elevated fire danger across Umatilla County and surrounding areas.

Friday will be sunny with highs in the mid-80s, and by Saturday, most of Eastern Oregon will see clear skies and highs nearing 90°F. Pendleton is forecast to hit 94°F by Sunday, with low humidity and dry winds increasing the risk of wildfires. Local fire agencies may issue advisories if drying trends continue into next week.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure spark-producing equipment. Light winds continue into early next week, but daytime highs will stay in the 90s through Tuesday before cooling slightly midweek.

More heat is expected early next week, with no significant rain in sight through Wednesday.
