Pendleton, Ore. – Thunderstorms across eastern Oregon and southeast Washington are finally giving way to a more stable pattern as a high-pressure system settles in starting Monday. Residents can expect dry skies, highs in the 70s and 80s, and breezy winds that may pick up each afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, gusts between 15 and 25 mph will be common through midweek, especially in open valleys and along the Columbia Gorge. The strongest winds are forecast near Hermiston, Ellensburg, and Goldendale, where gusts could push past 20 mph on multiple days.

Daytime highs will climb into the low-80s in Yakima, Walla Walla, and Dallesport, while cooler spots like La Grande and John Day hold closer to the mid-70s. Overnight lows will dip into the 50s, offering some relief but keeping conditions dry.

Travelers along I-82 and U.S. 97 should prepare for crosswinds, and fire danger remains elevated with the return of warm, dry weather. Outdoor burning is discouraged, and residents are urged to secure loose items like lawn furniture and trash bins.

The dry, breezy setup looks to continue through next weekend, with no significant storm systems on the horizon.
