Pendleton, Oregon – Temperatures across eastern Oregon and southeast Washington are set to soar into the upper 90s and even triple digits by Sunday and Monday, bringing the region’s first significant summer heatwave.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, highs will climb into the upper 80s and 90s on Tuesday, before a brief cooldown midweek. By Sunday, the heat returns with intensity, and forecasters say there’s a 20–50% chance that cities like Pendleton, Richland, Pasco, and Yakima will hit or exceed 100°F by Monday.
Cities across the Columbia Basin will feel the brunt of the warming. Pasco, Walla Walla, and Redmond are projected to reach between 98°F and 101°F on Monday, while Bend and Cle Elum will see highs in the upper 80s. Even typically cooler spots like La Pine and Joseph are expected to top out near 90°F. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and hydrate frequently.
This heatwave follows a cooler-than-average spring, but is on par with early summer spikes seen in recent years. The heat could impact outdoor events, school programs, and agricultural operations across the region.
Temperatures will remain elevated through early next week, with additional advisories possible if trends continue.
