Boise, ID – Light snow is back in the forecast for eastern Oregon and southwest Idaho as a quick-moving system spreads showers into the region tonight and early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Boise.
Forecasters say snow will begin in eastern Oregon Saturday evening, then expand into southwest Idaho by early Sunday morning. Most lower-elevation areas—including Boise, Ontario, Mountain Home, and surrounding valleys—are expected to see less than 1 inch of accumulation.
However, snowfall amounts will increase across higher terrain. Mountain communities such as McCall, Stanley, Fairfield, and the South Hills may see more noticeable accumulations as bands of steadier snow pass through. While totals remain generally light, NWS notes that higher peaks and backcountry areas could pick up additional amounts, especially above pass level.
Even small snowfall amounts can create travel concerns. With temperatures dipping to near freezing overnight, slick spots are possible on bridges, passes, and untreated roads. NWS urges travelers to remain alert for winter driving conditions, particularly in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The snowfall is expected to taper off through the day Sunday, with the system lifting northeast by late afternoon.
Drivers heading across I-84, US-95, and state mountain routes should plan for occasional reduced visibility and icy patches. NWS encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve.
