Pendleton, OR – A Freeze Watch has been issued for much of eastern Oregon, including Kittitas County, the Simcoe Highlands, Southern Blue Mountains, and Blue Mountain Foothills, as temperatures are forecast to plummet late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, overnight lows could fall to 27–28 degrees Fahrenheit, with frost and freeze conditions likely before sunrise Tuesday. The agency warns that the cold could damage or kill crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing, urging residents to take precautions now.
Forecast models show the highest freeze potential across areas near Redmond, Bend, John Day, Enterprise, and La Grande, where probabilities of dropping below 32°F exceed 90%. The Pendleton area also faces an 80% chance of sub-freezing temperatures early Tuesday.
While confidence in the forecast remains high, forecasters say winds and cloud cover could slightly affect overnight lows. Homeowners are advised to cover tender plants, drain outdoor hoses, and protect exposed pipes before temperatures drop.
This freeze marks one of the first widespread cold events of the season, signaling an early transition toward late-fall conditions in central and eastern Oregon.
