Pendleton, OR – Drivers across portions of northeast Oregon and south-central Washington are being urged to use caution this morning as dense fog and mist have reduced visibility to less than a half-mile in several areas, according to the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
Fog has been observed on multiple ODOT and WSDOT traffic cameras around Hermiston, Stanfield, Umatilla, and Yakima, particularly along I-82, I-84, US395, and US730. Motorists traveling through these routes are advised to slow down, keep headlights on, and leave extra distance between vehicles.
Visibility may drop suddenly in certain stretches, especially near I-82 between Umatilla and Westland Road and Route US395 through Stanfield, where thick patches of fog have persisted through the night. Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Sunday morning as temperatures rise and winds increase slightly.
The NWS reminds drivers that fog can form quickly in low-lying areas and valleys, and travel delays are possible through early morning hours.
