Oregon – Streetlights blur into a soft haze across Pendleton this morning as dense fog swallows much of the Blue Mountain foothills. Cars crawl along I-84, headlights cutting through the thick gray as visibility drops to near zero in spots. The air feels heavy and still, with temperatures hovering just above freezing — the kind of morning that reminds drivers winter is closing in.

The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m., warning of dangerously low visibility across north-central and eastern Oregon. Drivers between Pendleton, Heppner, and John Day should slow down and keep extra distance, especially in valleys where fog tends to linger longest.

By afternoon, skies will stay cloudy with highs near 45°F and a slight chance of drizzle. A few light showers may return Friday and Saturday, followed by colder, clearer nights dipping into the upper 20s. Frost could develop in rural areas by Sunday morning, marking the first significant chill since early fall.

Meteorologists say this calm, foggy stretch is part of a larger early-December transition. NOAA’s extended outlook highlights below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation spreading across much of the West and Midwest between December 2 and 6. That means Oregon could see a wetter, colder start to December — and even hints of early mountain snow by next week.
