Oklahoma City, Okla. – Oklahoma residents will swelter under dangerous heat today, with a heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday as temperatures and humidity combine to push heat index values up to 106 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illness if precautions aren’t taken.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the advisory covers much of the state, including Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Stillwater, and extending into northern Texas near Wichita Falls. The hottest stretch is expected from early afternoon through early evening, with little overnight relief as lows hold near the mid-70s.
Cities like Guthrie, Moore, Edmond, and Duncan could see heat index readings peak over 104°F by mid-afternoon, with road crews, outdoor workers, and student-athletes at highest risk. Emergency officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, check on elderly neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
Heat risks remain elevated through midweek, with slightly cooler temperatures arriving Wednesday but humidity keeping conditions uncomfortable. Officials warn additional advisories could be issued if the heat lingers into late week.
