Clayton, Okla. – Low-lying roads and creek crossings in northern Pushmataha County remain dangerous early Tuesday as a flash flood warning continues until 1:45 a.m. The National Weather Service reports 1 to 4 inches of rain fell from strong evening thunderstorms, leaving water still high in several areas despite the rain ending.

According to the NWS in Tulsa, the greatest flooding risk is in and around Clayton, Albion, Stanley, and Nashoba, including Clayton Lake State Park and parts of Tuskahoma. Small creeks, streams, and underpasses may still be impassable, and drivers are urged to avoid travel where water is covering the roadway.

Emergency officials stress the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” rule, noting that most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. In hilly parts of Pushmataha County, numerous low-water crossings can quickly become hazardous in the hours after heavy rain.

The warning remains in effect through early morning, and conditions will be reassessed as water levels recede. Additional advisories are possible if runoff continues to impact roads.
