Tulsa, Oklahoma – Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact eastern Oklahoma from Friday through Sunday, bringing dangerous winds, large hail, and a risk of flash flooding just as Memorial Day weekend travel ramps up.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the region faces a “slight risk” for severe storms each afternoon and evening through Sunday. The main threats include wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail ranging from quarter to golf ball size. While tornado potential remains nil, strong storms could still cause power outages and hazardous driving conditions, especially along I-40 and I-44.

Cities including Tulsa, Muskogee, McAlester, and Okmulgee are all within the primary impact zone. Outdoor events in Bartlesville and Fort Smith may also face interruptions. The NWS warns that repeated rounds of storms could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid travel during peak storm hours. Ensure mobile devices are charged and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Storm activity is expected to continue into Sunday evening, with additional watches or advisories likely as conditions evolve.
