Tulsa, Oklahoma – A multi-day round of severe storms is expected to impact eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas through Sunday evening, with the greatest threats including large hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, severe storms will begin developing Friday across western Arkansas and far southeast Oklahoma, with threats continuing Saturday and shifting into northeast Oklahoma by late Sunday. Affected cities include Tulsa, Muskogee, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville.
Friday’s storms could bring golfball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts, especially in areas like Poteau and Greenwood during the afternoon and early evening. Saturday’s system poses a similar threat, with hail up to 2 inches in diameter expected in places like McAlester, Hugo, and Fort Smith. By Sunday, the focus shifts north, with limited but potentially intense storms forming near the dryline across Tulsa, Claremore, and Grove.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Stay indoors during storms and avoid travel if hail or damaging winds are reported. Prepare by securing outdoor objects and charging mobile devices.
The severe threat continues into Sunday evening, with more updates expected as storm timing and strength become clearer.
