TULSA, Okla. – The first hard freeze of the season is set to grip eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas late Sunday into Monday, with temperatures plunging into the upper teens and low 20s by dawn.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday through 9 a.m. Monday, covering communities including Tulsa, Muskogee, McAlester, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and Bentonville. Forecasters expect widespread subfreezing temperatures, with the coldest readings near 19°F in valleys and rural areas across Green Country and the Arkansas Ozarks.
Residents are urged to protect outdoor plumbing, wrap exposed pipes, and bring pets and plants indoors before sunset. The cold will likely end the 2025 growing season across northeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Oklahoma and Arkansas transportation departments advise motorists to watch for frost or ice on bridges and overpasses early Monday, especially along I-40, I-44, and U.S. 69.
Skies will remain clear and winds light overnight, allowing rapid cooling. Sunshine returns Monday, but temperatures will struggle to climb above the mid-40s before a gradual midweek warmup.
