Oklahoma City, OK – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for most of Oklahoma and portions of northwest and west-central Arkansas, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 22°F late Sunday night into Monday morning.
According to the NWS offices in Norman and Tulsa, the warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday through 9 a.m. Monday. The cold air mass will bring widespread sub-freezing conditions across both states, potentially marking the coldest night so far this season.
Forecasters warn that the sharp temperature drop will likely kill sensitive vegetation, end the growing season, and may damage unprotected pipes if not properly insulated. Residents are encouraged to wrap or drain outdoor plumbing, cover plants, and bring pets indoors.
Cities under the warning include Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Stillwater, Enid, Lawton, McAlester, Ardmore, and Fort Smith, along with northwest Arkansas communities such as Fayetteville, Bentonville, and Harrison.
The NWS advises taking precautions now before temperatures tumble Sunday evening. A light breeze overnight could also cause wind chills in the upper teens across rural areas, especially in northern Oklahoma.
Warmer afternoons are forecast to return by midweek, but morning frosts may continue into Tuesday.
