Tulsa, OK – A widespread hard freeze is expected across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas tonight, with temperatures plummeting into the upper teens and low 20s by Monday morning. The National Weather Service in Tulsa warns that wind chills could dip into the single digits in some areas as strong northwest winds continue through the night.

According to the National Weather Service Tulsa, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday through 9 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect lows as cold as 19°F, with gusty winds up to 25 mph intensifying the chill. The combination of cold temperatures and strong winds could cause damage to outdoor pipes, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected animals.

Residents are urged to cover outdoor faucets, bring pets indoors, and protect plants from the cold. The weather service also cautions that this event poses a “medium to high chance of a local killing freeze,” potentially ending the growing season for much of the region.

Wind chill readings are expected to range from the teens to low 20s, with Tulsa, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville all facing bitterly cold starts to the workweek.

This marks one of the first widespread hard freezes of the season for the area, signaling a sharp shift toward winter conditions.
