Tulsa, OK — Residents of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas should prepare for extreme weather conditions on Sunday, as dangerous heat levels and severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the region. The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings and advisories, with heat index values ranging from 105 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. These extreme conditions are expected to last from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the heat poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those spending time outdoors. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and seek air-conditioned environments whenever possible.

The weather threat doesn’t end with the heat, however. Thunderstorm chances will increase by mid to late afternoon, particularly in eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Several rounds of storms, some potentially severe, are expected to continue through the evening and into the early hours of Monday. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary concerns, with the potential for localized flooding in some areas.
