Pittsburgh, Pa. – Drivers across Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania are waking up to dense fog this morning, cutting visibility to a quarter-mile or less in some areas and making for a slow, cautious commute. The thickest fog is reported along river valleys, ridgetops, and low-lying stretches of rural highways, creating sudden changes in driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Wilmington, and State College, fog formation began before sunrise and will persist through 9 a.m. Areas affected include Youngstown, Steubenville, Wheeling, Butler, Beaver Falls, and the Interstate 70 and Interstate 79 corridors.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra braking distance, especially on bridges and near water where fog can linger longer. School buses and early commuters should be alert for rapidly shifting visibility over short distances.
The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise, but another round is possible overnight if skies clear and winds remain calm.
