Pittsburgh, PA – Thunderstorms packing gusty winds and downpours could sweep through western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio between 1 and 8 p.m. Thursday, raising the risk of flash flooding and isolated severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a cold front will trigger scattered strong to severe storms Thursday afternoon and early evening. A Marginal Risk has been issued for both severe weather and excessive rainfall across southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, including areas like Pittsburgh, Morgantown, and Wheeling.

The primary threats include damaging wind gusts, small hail, and heavy rain capable of causing localized flash flooding. Storms may form quickly and move through fast, making low-lying roads, urban areas, and poor-drainage zones particularly vulnerable.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid flooded roads — “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains the key message from the NWS. Power outages and travel delays could accompany stronger cells, especially along I-79 and I-70 corridors.

Rain chances diminish later Thursday night, but more updates may follow if conditions intensify.
