Pittsburgh, PA – Drivers across western Pennsylvania and parts of eastern Ohio may face dangerous travel conditions this morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to less than a quarter of a mile in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, areas of fog will persist until 9 a.m. Wednesday across a wide swath of counties, including Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, Greene, Jefferson, and Armstrong in Pennsylvania, and Columbiana, Harrison, and Tuscarawas in Ohio. Cities affected include Pittsburgh, Steubenville, New Castle, Wheeling, and Morgantown.
The fog, caused by overnight clearing skies and high low-level moisture, has already dropped visibility to just 0.25 miles at Pittsburgh International Airport as of 5:53 a.m. EDT. Officials urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for commutes—especially along I-79, I-376, and PA Route 28 where sudden changes in visibility are expected.
Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise, with clearer skies and sunshine returning by midmorning. Visibility should gradually increase between 7 and 9 a.m.
Fog advisories remain in effect through 9 a.m., and drivers should remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions.
