PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Western Pennsylvania and parts of eastern Ohio will wake up to a chilly start Monday morning as clear skies and calm winds allow temperatures to tumble into the 30s and low 40s. Drivers and early commuters may notice frost in outlying valleys where readings drop the most.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, radiational cooling will be the main driver of the overnight chill, with heat escaping quickly under clear skies. Low temperatures are expected to dip to 39° in New Philadelphia and Zanesville, Ohio, by sunrise, while Pittsburgh will bottom out around 40°. Du Bois and Morgantown should also hover near 40°, with Wheeling seeing similar readings.

The sharp drop comes after a comfortable weekend, with cooler air funneling in from the north. Residents are advised to bring sensitive plants indoors and prepare for an early taste of autumn conditions. Rural areas, particularly across western Pennsylvania’s higher terrain, may feel several degrees colder than city centers.

The National Weather Service notes that chilly mornings could persist into midweek before a gradual warmup. More advisories are possible if temperatures continue dipping into the 30s overnight.
