Youngstown, Ohio – Triple-digit heat is bearing down on eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania today, with residents across the Ohio Valley facing hazardous conditions from late morning through Thursday evening.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Tuscarawas, Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, Noble, Mahoning, Trumbull, and Ashtabula counties in Ohio, along with several neighboring counties in western Pennsylvania. Heat index values between 100° and 104° are expected, making heat exhaustion or stroke a serious threat for anyone without access to air conditioning.
Cities including Youngstown, Warren, Dover, Cambridge, and Zanesville are under alert, along with New Castle and Hermitage across the state line. Outdoor workers, children at summer programs, and the elderly are especially at risk. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit time outside, and check in on vulnerable neighbors. If cooling centers are available in your area, consider using them.
The advisory expires at 8 p.m., but with continued warmth into the weekend, health departments may issue further alerts.
