Pittsburgh, Pa. – Hotter weather is set to return across western Pennsylvania this weekend, with temperatures near or above 90 degrees expected by Sunday in many areas, including Pittsburgh and Altoona.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, high temperatures will steadily rise after Thursday’s isolated thunderstorms give way to dry conditions Friday. By Sunday, probabilities for 90-degree heat exceed 60% in Pittsburgh, 65% in Uniontown, and surge to 78% in Morgantown. Heat may persist into Monday before easing midweek.

Eastern Ohio and parts of northern West Virginia are also in the zone, with Wheeling seeing a 48% chance of hitting 90°, while Zanesville spikes at 68%. Although not as extreme as June’s prolonged heat wave, officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Schools remain out, but drivers and outdoor workers should be cautious, particularly on heat-absorbing surfaces like Route 22 and I-79. Cooling centers may reopen if needed.

Heat risks lessen by Tuesday as probabilities drop sharply. Another update is expected by late Sunday from NWS Pittsburgh.
