Pittsburgh, Pa. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to intensify across southwestern Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and eastern Ohio by 2 p.m. Sunday, with isolated strong storms and heavy rainfall posing risks through the early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) is in place for severe weather across the tri-state area, including Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Youngstown. Localized flooding is also possible, with a Slight Risk (Level 2) for excessive rainfall in parts of eastern Ohio and the northern panhandle of West Virginia.
Communities along I-70 and I-79 may experience damaging wind gusts, small hail, and brief downpours capable of overwhelming poor drainage areas. Afternoon outdoor events and travel could be disrupted by rapidly changing weather conditions.
Residents are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid flood-prone roads. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains the safest guidance if water covers roadways. Charge phones and prepare for potential power outages, especially in rural or hilly terrain.
Storm activity is expected to diminish by 6 p.m., but additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay with the National Weather Service or local emergency channels for updates throughout the day.
