Albany, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany has issued Wind Advisories for a broad portion of eastern New York, western Massachusetts, southern Vermont, and northwestern Connecticut, where gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected from 11 a.m. Friday through 8 a.m. EDT Saturday.
The advisory area includes the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, Catskills, Berkshires, Hudson Valley, and Litchfield Hills, along with Bennington County, Vermont, which remains under a current advisory until 5 a.m. Friday before the next one begins later in the day.
According to the NWS, west winds of 10 to 25 mph will strengthen through Friday afternoon, producing gusts strong enough to topple tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. Unsecured outdoor objects, such as decorations and trash bins, may also be blown around.
Motorists—especially those driving high-profile vehicles—should use extra caution on elevated roads, bridges, and exposed areas.
Forecasters expect winds to gradually ease by early Saturday as the low-pressure system moves east, ushering in cooler weekend temperatures.
