Morehead City, North Carolina – A noticeable warming trend is getting underway across eastern North Carolina today, bringing a taste of spring with afternoon highs climbing into the 50s and low 60s across the coastal plain and Inner Banks.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, temperatures will steadily rise through the week as a milder pattern settles over the region. Communities from Greenville and Kinston to New Bern, Jacksonville, and Morehead City can expect highs generally in the mid to upper 50s today, with some inland spots briefly touching the low 60s.
As warmer air moves in, forecasters are keeping a close eye on the potential for dense fog developing late tonight into Tuesday morning, especially for inland areas. Light showers or sprinkles are also possible Tuesday along the Outer Banks, though widespread rainfall is not expected during the day. Reduced visibility could impact the Tuesday morning commute, particularly on rural roads and near waterways.
The next more meaningful chance for accumulating rainfall arrives this coming weekend, when a weather system is expected to bring a broader area of showers to eastern North Carolina. Until then, conditions remain mostly dry with gradually warming temperatures each day.
Residents are encouraged to remain alert for fog advisories overnight and plan ahead for changing conditions later this week. Additional updates will be issued as the fog and weekend rain chances become clearer.
