Newport, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina can expect a shift to cooler weather and clear skies starting this weekend. Friday will bring scattered morning showers with highs reaching 55°F, but temperatures will drop significantly overnight, setting the stage for a brisk and sunny Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, a cold front will push temperatures down to a low of 34°F Friday night. Northwest winds between 5 to 8 mph will add to the chill. Saturday’s high is forecast to reach 48°F, with mostly sunny skies and north winds up to 13 mph. The weekend’s clear weather presents ideal conditions for outdoor activities but requires layering up, particularly in the evening as temperatures plummet.

Sunday will be even colder, with highs near 41°F and lows dipping to 17°F. Gusty winds are expected Sunday afternoon, reaching speeds of up to 17 mph. Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations and prepare for freezing overnight conditions.

The five-day forecast shows an upward trend in temperatures starting Monday, with highs returning to the upper 40s and low 50s by Christmas Eve. While skies will remain mostly clear through early next week, a slight chance of rain reappears Wednesday into Thursday.

For road safety, drivers along U.S. Route 70 and nearby highways should exercise caution during windy periods and morning fog. Stay updated with the latest weather advisories from local meteorologists and ensure homes are winter-ready for the holiday season.
