Morehead City, NC – Scattered thunderstorms are set to disrupt parts of eastern North Carolina through Friday, with locally heavy rain and gusty winds likely to impact commutes and outdoor plans. The highest risk comes Friday, when stronger storms could bring downpours and dangerous lightning to the Crystal Coast and inland towns like Newport and Havelock.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and storms will pop up each afternoon and evening, peaking Friday as a cold front pushes across the region. Northeast winds could gust up to 23 mph along the coast, with brief flooding possible in low-lying areas. Rain may be heavy at times, especially during thunderstorms, with rainfall totals exceeding a half-inch where storms persist.

Thursday: Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Highs reach the mid-80s, with breezy northeast winds up to 21 mph in gusts.

Friday: The most active day, with showers and thunderstorms likely—some could be severe, producing heavy rain and lightning. Temperatures top out in the mid-80s.

Saturday: Conditions turn partly sunny and drier, but a few showers or storms can’t be ruled out in the afternoon. High near 86.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds, with a slight chance for an isolated shower or storm. Highs remain in the mid-80s.

Monday: Spotty storms possible after 2 p.m., otherwise partly sunny and warm.

Residents should monitor local alerts and avoid travel during heavy downpours or when thunder roars. Flash flooding is possible in flood-prone spots Friday. Drier weather returns this weekend, but pop-up storms may linger into early next week. Stay tuned for updates as the Friday storm risk evolves.
