Wilmington, N.C. – Drivers in Wilmington may face water-covered streets this evening as minor flooding spreads along the lower Cape Fear River. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 7 to 10 p.m., with water potentially pushing onto Water Street and the Battleship Road area.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, water could rise up to half a foot above ground level in low-lying areas. The highest risk falls during the evening high tide, when storm drains along downtown Wilmington may overflow. Officials urge drivers to avoid barricades, allow extra travel time, and not attempt to cross flooded streets.

The advisory highlights specific trouble spots, including the USS North Carolina Road and nearby businesses along the waterfront. Flood-prone properties should be secured, and residents should prepare for repeated evening flooding events through midweek as high tides align with the lunar cycle.

Looking ahead, skies remain mostly clear Thursday night with lows near 68. Sunshine dominates Friday and Saturday with highs near 90, though humidity rises. Storm chances return Sunday afternoon, bringing a 50% chance of thunderstorms into the evening. Next week starts warm, with scattered storms likely by Tuesday.

Residents should remain alert for additional coastal flood advisories, particularly with higher tides expected this weekend.
