North Carolina – Cold air hugs the Crystal Coast early, leaving docks frosty and windshields stiff around Morehead City and Newport. Thermometers hover near 30 degrees at sunrise, a sharp contrast to the mild afternoon ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, clear skies and calm winds allowed temperatures to dip below freezing inland and near the coast. Sunshine dominates quickly this morning, pushing highs into the low 60s by afternoon. Light southwest winds pick up, making the air feel noticeably softer compared to the early chill.

Clouds increase tonight as moisture moves in from the west. Temperatures stay mild, bottoming out near 50 degrees. A brief round of rain develops Wednesday morning, but rainfall totals remain light. Roads may turn slick for a time, especially along U.S. 70 and local coastal routes.

By midday Wednesday, rain exits and brighter skies return. Highs reach the low 60s again, keeping the February warmth intact. Wednesday night turns clearer and cooler, with lows slipping back toward 30 degrees. That raises patchy freeze concerns for inland communities and exposed vegetation.

Thursday brings full sunshine but cooler air. Highs settle near 50, closer to seasonal levels. Friday and Saturday trend drier and gradually warmer, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-50s. Valentine’s weekend looks favorable for outdoor plans, especially during daylight hours.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across much of the East Coast. That suggests a broader warming trend into early next week, even as occasional rain systems pass through.

Dress in layers today, watch for slick roads during Wednesday’s rain, and protect sensitive plants during colder nights. Feeling the dramatic swing from winter mornings to spring afternoons? Let us know what it feels like where you are.
