Morehead City, North Carolina – Dry conditions and building heat are intensifying drought concerns across eastern North Carolina, with less than a 10 percent chance of rain and temperatures climbing toward 90 degrees by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, the entire region is now in severe drought (D2), with conditions expected to worsen as a prolonged dry pattern continues through at least the next seven days. High temperatures will steadily rise into the 80s this weekend and approach 90 degrees by the middle of next week, accelerating drying across خاک and vegetation.

Communities along the coast, including Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and the Outer Banks, are also facing hazardous beach conditions. A high risk of rip currents is in place, particularly from Cape Lookout northward through areas like Hatteras and Nags Head. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the surf where warnings are posted.

Inland areas including New Bern and Greenville face increasing fire risk as dry fuels build. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and conserve water where possible.

The dry pattern is expected to persist into next week, with little relief in sight and additional advisories likely if drought conditions continue to worsen.
