New Bern, NC – A rapid warmup is underway across eastern North Carolina, with temperatures climbing from the low 60s today to the low 80s by Sunday afternoon, signaling a stretch of early spring warmth.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, Thursday will stay mostly dry with highs near 61 degrees and cool morning lows in the upper 30s. Sunshine dominates into Friday as temperatures jump to around 69 degrees, setting up a steady warming trend across the region.

By Saturday, highs reach near 79 degrees inland, with even warmer conditions expected Sunday as temperatures peak around 83 degrees from New Bern to Jacksonville and along the Crystal Coast. Dry air and light winds will support comfortable but increasingly warm afternoons.

The next shift arrives Monday, when a cold front brings a 30 percent chance of showers by the afternoon and evening hours. While rainfall looks brief, it could impact late-day travel and outdoor plans.

Residents should take advantage of the dry stretch but prepare for warmer afternoons and increased pollen levels. Additional updates are expected as the early-week system approaches.
