Morehead City, N.C. – Drivers and residents along the North Carolina coast should prepare for shallow flooding through Friday night as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until midnight, replacing an earlier Coastal Flood Warning.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, up to one to two feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. The advisory covers Bogue Banks beaches, Bogue Sound, the Newport and White Oak rivers, and nearby tidal creeks.

Some roads and low-lying property, including parking lots, parks, and waterfront homes, could see shallow flooding. Motorists are urged not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth, as even minor flooding can create hazardous travel conditions.

The threat will ease after midnight, though tides remain higher than normal into Saturday morning. Weather conditions turn quieter Friday with partly sunny skies and highs near 83 before another chance of showers returns late in the weekend.
