North Carolina drivers could face flooded roads along U.S. Highway 70 and low-lying coastal areas through late Wednesday as high tides push water inland. The National Weather Service warns that up to two feet of inundation could affect parking lots, parks, and homes near shorelines.

According to the National Weather Service office in Newport, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for Carteret and Onslow counties until 11 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory covers Bogue Banks beaches, Bogue Sound, the Newport and White Oak Rivers, and North Topsail Beach. Travel delays are possible, especially around high tide, when shallow flooding may cover roads.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through barricades or floodwaters of unknown depth. Emergency officials stress that just a few inches of water can disable vehicles or trap drivers. Extra travel time is recommended, and homeowners in flood-prone zones should protect property before the evening high tide.

Conditions will improve beginning Thursday, September 11, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 81. A slight chance of showers could develop before dawn and again in the afternoon, but rainfall totals will remain light. Winds will turn northeast at 6 mph, calming seas and lowering flood risk heading into the weekend.

By Friday, highs near 81 with clear skies will dominate. A stretch of seasonable fall weather will continue through early next week, offering dry conditions for Patriot Day remembrance ceremonies and outdoor events.
