Newport, NC – Dry and relatively mild weather will linger across eastern North Carolina over the next couple of days before a return of heat and humidity, along with typical daytime showers and thunderstorms, according to the US National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City.
Dry weather will continue through Monday with daytime highs in the upper 80s and overnight lows in the 60s. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Greenville are expected to reach 88°F on Sunday and Monday, with lows of 64°F and 70°F, respectively.
However, starting Tuesday, there will be an increase in moisture and instability, leading to a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures peaking at 88°F. This pattern is expected to persist through Wednesday and Thursday, with precipitation chances of 40% and 30%, respectively. Highs on these days will range from 90°F to 93°F.
The heat will intensify by Friday, as the forecast predicts highs of 95°F. The National Weather Service warns that heat indices could rise above 100°F, exacerbating the discomfort from the already high humidity levels.
By the weekend, the weather will remain hot and humid with lingering chances of thunderstorms. Friday and Saturday are expected to see highs in the mid-90s with nighttime temperatures in the mid-70s.
