Albany, NY – Drivers heading into the Adirondacks late Saturday into early Sunday should prepare for slick conditions as light snow and freezing rain create patchy ice on mountain roads, especially near Glens Falls and Lake George.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a period of light precipitation will move into the region by Saturday night, beginning as snow in higher elevations before transitioning to rain. Areas such as Lake Placid, Old Forge, and Glens Falls may see up to an inch of snow accumulation and a glaze of ice, particularly along rural and elevated roads.
While the majority of eastern New York and western Vermont will see just brief rain showers, travel through the Adirondack Park region could become hazardous—especially overnight and in early morning hours. Icy spots may form on Route 9N and other secondary roads, and caution is advised for anyone traveling before sunrise Sunday.
The precipitation is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, but motorists are urged to monitor road conditions and delay non-essential travel if possible. Additional winter weather advisories could be issued if temperatures drop further overnight.
