Albany, N.Y. – Much-needed rainfall is soaking eastern New York and western New England today, with showers expected to last into Wednesday night. The National Weather Service says there is a greater than 70 percent chance of widespread rain across the region, delivering between a quarter inch and an inch and a half of precipitation.
According to the National Weather Service office in Albany, heavier rainfall is possible along and south of Interstate 90, where totals could exceed 2.5 inches in localized spots. Forecasters stress the rain will be beneficial for dry ground conditions, though brief ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas cannot be ruled out.
Steady rainfall is likely across Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Poughkeepsie, with lighter totals in Glens Falls and Whitehall. Pittsfield, Massachusetts, could see totals near one inch before showers taper off late tonight. Drivers should allow extra travel time on wet roads and remain alert for standing water, especially on secondary highways.
Showers are expected to diminish by early Thursday, but more unsettled weather may return later in the week. Updates will be issued if additional advisories are needed.
