Albany, NY – A sunny start to the week will give way to increasing rain chances across eastern New York by late Thursday, with widespread showers likely Friday morning that could affect early commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a weak frontal system will approach the region late in the week, bringing 60% to 80% chances of rain Thursday night into Friday. While most of the Capital Region remains dry through midweek, high terrain in the Adirondacks could see a few isolated showers as early as Tuesday evening.

Wednesday is expected to stay mostly sunny with daytime highs reaching the low 70s in higher terrain and upper 70s in the valleys. Roads, outdoor events, and school activities should proceed without interruption through midweek.

However, by Thursday night, showers are more likely to develop, especially in areas west of Albany and along the Mohawk Valley. Friday could see heavier rain in the morning hours, with cooler temperatures and lingering clouds into the afternoon.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead for wet roads during the Friday morning rush, and residents should keep an eye on updated advisories as the front nears.
