Albany, NY – Residents across eastern New York and western New England are facing another bitterly cold night, with overnight low temperatures dropping into the single digits — and even near zero in some northern and higher-elevation communities — before clouds increase late.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, light to calm winds tonight will allow temperatures to fall quickly after sunset. Most areas are expected to bottom out between 0 and 10 degrees, with the coldest readings in the Adirondacks and northern counties.

Forecast lows include around 0 degrees in Old Forge and Newcomb, 1 degree in Glens Falls, 5 degrees in Albany, and 6 to 7 degrees in Herkimer, Cobleskill, and Hunter. Slightly milder but still frigid conditions are expected farther south and west, with 10 degrees in Binghamton, 11 in Scranton, and 12 in Ithaca. Syracuse is forecast to dip to around 11 degrees.

Across western New England, temperatures are expected to fall to 2 degrees in Rutland, 3 below zero in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and 4 degrees in Pittsfield and Springfield, according to the forecast.

The National Weather Service says mid and high clouds will increase after midnight as a warm front approaches the region. Despite the cloud cover, no precipitation is expected overnight, and winds will remain light.

The cold conditions could lead to dangerous wind chill values, especially in exposed or rural areas, and residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Temperatures are expected to gradually moderate heading into Thursday as the warm front moves through, though cold winter conditions will continue to dominate the region.
