Woodstock, New York – Drivers across eastern New York and southern Vermont could face slick roads and slow travel starting before daybreak Tuesday as a broad winter weather system spreads snow and light ice across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect Tuesday for large portions of the Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, Adirondacks, and southwestern Vermont. Western Ulster County will see impacts begin first, with snow developing before sunrise and continuing into the early afternoon before tapering off. Snow totals there are expected to range from 2 to 5 inches, with a light glaze of ice possible.

Farther north, including Hamilton, Herkimer, and Fulton counties, snow spreads west to east shortly after daybreak Tuesday and continues into Tuesday night. Periods of mixed precipitation and patchy freezing drizzle could create slick conditions into the evening and overnight hours. Similar conditions are expected in Bennington and western Windham counties in Vermont, especially at elevations above 1,200 feet.

The most hazardous travel is expected during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, particularly on secondary roads, bridges, and higher terrain routes. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution throughout the day.

Snow showers may linger into Tuesday night before conditions gradually improve by Wednesday morning, though isolated slick spots could persist where freezing drizzle develops late Tuesday.
