Albany, N.Y. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to roll into eastern New York Thursday afternoon, bringing the threat of damaging winds between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, storms will develop ahead of a cold front and move across the Mohawk Valley, western Adirondacks, and Catskills. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated storms could turn strong, with gusty winds posing the greatest risk.

Residents in Glens Falls, Utica, and Kingston should prepare for sudden downpours, lightning, and wind gusts capable of toppling tree limbs and knocking out power. Outdoor events and evening commutes may be impacted, especially along I-87 and Route 28 where visibility could drop quickly in heavy rain.

Officials urge anyone with outdoor plans to stay weather aware and have a safe place to shelter if storms approach. Boaters on area lakes are advised to head to shore before conditions worsen.

Storm chances taper off Thursday night as cooler air moves in behind the front, but more updates are expected if additional warnings are issued.
