Albany, New York – Slippery travel conditions could develop quickly late Sunday night into the Monday morning commute as wet snow accumulates across eastern New York.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, two rounds of precipitation will impact the region, beginning with snow Sunday morning that may mix with rain during the day before transitioning back to wet snow Sunday night into early Monday. This second round poses the greatest risk for travel impacts.

Snowfall totals could reach 2 to 3 inches in parts of the Capital Region, with locally higher amounts possible if the system tracks farther south. Cities including Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga Springs are all at risk for snow-covered roads, especially overnight into the early morning hours.

Major routes such as I-87, I-90, and the New York State Thruway could become slick, particularly on bridges and overpasses where colder surfaces allow snow to accumulate faster. Visibility may also drop during heavier bursts of snow.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution during the Monday morning commute. Conditions should gradually improve later Monday morning, but additional advisories may be issued as snowfall trends become clearer.
