Albany, NY – Drivers north of the Capital Region should prepare for snow-covered roads by late tonight, with 3 to 7 inches of accumulation and wind gusts up to 35 mph creating reduced visibility before the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 10 p.m. Sunday and continues until 7 p.m. Monday for Fulton, Montgomery, Saratoga and southern Washington counties. Snow will overspread the region late Sunday night, with steady accumulation through Monday afternoon.
Communities including Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Amsterdam and Gloversville can expect several inches by daybreak Monday. Higher totals are possible in northern Fulton County near Caroga Lake. Blowing snow may develop in open areas, especially along Interstate 87, Route 9 and Route 29, briefly lowering visibility for drivers in Saratoga County and near Hudson Falls and Fort Edward.
While snowfall amounts remain lower than areas farther south and east under a Winter Storm Warning, slick secondary roads and untreated surfaces could cause delays during both the morning and evening commutes Monday.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. The advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Monday, and additional updates may be issued if snowfall intensity increases overnight.
