Albany, New York – 15°F overnight lows are creating dangerous refreezing conditions through Sunday morning, as light snow showers and daytime highs near 24–41°F impact travel across eastern New York. Any moisture on roadways may freeze quickly after sunset, leading to slick conditions overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a slight chance of light snow showers will continue through Saturday, with most areas staying dry but cold under partly to mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will range from the mid-20s to low 40s, followed by a sharp drop into the mid-teens to low 20s overnight.

The greatest impacts are expected across the Capital Region, including Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, as well as higher elevations in the Catskills, Adirondacks, and Berkshires. Roads along Interstate 87, Interstate 90, and Route 7 could see patchy slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces as temperatures fall.

Drivers should use caution tonight into early Sunday, when refreezing is most likely. Residents should also prepare for very cold overnight conditions by protecting pets, pipes, and sensitive plants.

Conditions improve Sunday as temperatures rebound into the 40s and low 50s under partly sunny skies, reducing ice concerns and bringing a brief break from the cold.
